Situated at the foot of the Chernatitsa (Karabalkan) elevation, along the banks of the Chepelarska River, the beautiful Assenovgrad is a convenient starting point for a tour to the Western Rhodopes and especially to the Dobrostan Massif and Chernatitsa, which starts from Pamporovo and reaches the Thracian Lowland. There are beautiful caves, rock bridges and formations and natural phenomena along the age-old coniferous forests. This interesting part of the Rhodopes is one of the most visited by tourists and lovers of nature.

Special efforts should be put into:

• modernization and reconstruction of the existing tourist base;

• construction and organization of new objects for hunting, cultural, country and ecological tourism, and also of holiday objects, using the potentialities not only of the municipal centre, but also in the other settlements with favourable conditions for that;

• decentralization of the tourist and holiday base and creation of new private tourist objects;

• methodological, organizational, normative and financial support of the accompanying technical and social infrastructure - roads, complex information services and folk, cultural, etc. events typical of the region.
